GTA VI costs €79.99 / $79.99 for the Standard Edition and €99.99 / $99.99 for the Ultimate on the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store, and it is unlikely to drop in the first few months. The simplest legal way to pay a little less is to pay for your pre-order with discounted prepaid credit.
Here is how it works and, above all, how much you really save, which is less than many sites promise.
How it works
Sony and Microsoft sell gift cards to top up your account wallet. Some code stores, such as Instant Gaming, sell them below face value. The process:
- Buy credit for the amount you need (enough for the Standard or Ultimate Edition).
- You receive the code by email and redeem it on your console or on the PlayStation or Xbox website.
- With the credit in your wallet, pre-order GTA VI on the official store, just as you would with a card.
How much you really save
Gift card prices change almost daily, so do not trust fixed figures (including the ones on other sites). The maths is simple:
Saving = card face value − what you pay for it
For example, if an €80 card costs €75, you save €5 on the Standard Edition. In recent weeks the saving has been a few euros, not the €10-15 some articles promise. It is worth it if you are buying digitally anyway, but it is not a big discount.
Also bear in mind:
- Any leftover credit stays in your wallet for another purchase.
- Check for payment fees at the code store: they can eat the saving.
Mistakes to avoid
- Region. On PlayStation the credit must match your account’s region. A code from another country will not redeem.
- Wrong edition. Make sure you pre-order the edition you want before spending the credit. If you start with Standard, you can upgrade to Ultimate later for €20.
- Game key sites. This method is about buying official credit, not GTA VI keys from third-party sites. Cheap “GTA 6 keys” you see before launch are, at best, unguaranteed resale.
What you keep when paying with credit
Because you buy on the official store, you get the same as paying by card:
- Pre-load from 12 November at midnight.
- Vintage Vice City Pack if you pre-order before 20 November.
- A free month of GTA+, included only with digital pre-orders (redeemable until 31 March 2027; it auto-renews unless you cancel).
If you are torn between editions, see Standard or Ultimate.
