What is a PC Bottleneck?

In gaming terms, a bottleneck occurs when one of your PC components limits the performance of the rest. In massive open-world titles like GTA 6, balance is key:

  • CPU Bottleneck: Occurs when your processor can’t send instructions fast enough to your graphics card. In GTA 6, this translates to sharp FPS drops when driving fast or in areas packed with NPCs.
  • GPU Bottleneck: Happens when your processor is fast, but the graphics card struggles to render frames at the requested resolution. This is the most common scenario at high resolutions (1440p or 4K), where you simply lower graphical settings to get more FPS.

How to Prepare for GTA 6

If our calculator indicates a bottleneck greater than 20%, especially a CPU bottleneck, we highly recommend planning an upgrade before Rockstar announces the official PC system requirements.
